San Michele Church, Anacapri
Featuring a Baroque facade and elaborate mosaic floors, San Michele is probably the most famous church of Capri. It is located in Anacapri, one of the two small towns located on the island of Capri. A magnificent depiction of St. Michael welcomes visitors just inside the entrance, thanks to a half-moon fresco. Here, San Michele is pictured with wide wings and a sword in his hand, a composition probably arranged by Baroque master Guido Reni. The floor mosaics, depicting Adam and Eve, are considered one of the most important cultural treasures on the island, and for this reason locals refer to San Michele as “the church of Paradise.”
