Santo Stefano, Capri
The whitewashed Cathedral of Santo Stefano was built on part of the estate of the Roman Emperor Tiberius, back when the island had its own diocese (today it is part of Sorrento’s diocese). The Baroque structure, featuring marble floors, vaulted ceilings and whitewashed exteriors, has been home to Franciscans, Dominicans and Theresian nuns before becoming the seat of the archdiocese. Today, the church of Santo Stefano is the largest one on the island.
