The Blessed Virgin Mary and St. John the Evangelist on the left
Depicted to the right of Jesus are his Mother and St. John the Evangelist. Mary’s white veil represents victory (Rev 3:5), purification (Rev. 7:14) and good deeds (Rev 19:8) according to Scanlan. Her hand is pointed at John, while the disciple looks at Mary, but points at Christ, recalling Christ’s words, "Son, behold your Mother.”
