CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF VERNETTES, PEISEY-NANCROIX (SAVOIE)
Winter and summer alike, the chapel of Our Lady of Vernettes, built near a supposedly miraculous spring following the healing of an inhabitant, appears in the middle of the grandiose landscape of the Savoyard mountains. Although it is lost in the wilderness, this Marian shrine attracts several hundred faithful each year. Every July 16th since 1773, the chapel—located at the foot of the Aiguille Grive—hosts a pilgrimage during which a statue of the Virgin of Pity is carried in procession.
