The Gathering of the Manna
The subject of this dramatic painting by the artist Peter Paul Rubens is taken from Exodus 16: 13-36 and represents the second time the Israelites experienced miraculous feeding as they were wandering in the Sinai desert. According to Exodus 16: 13-36, the Israelites witnessed the apparition of frost-like substance on the desert floor, manna, which Rubens represented as round wafers inspired by the sacrament of the Eucharist.
