Saffron -- Song of Songs 4:14
Saffron is the most expensive spice on the planet, in part because it takes about 225,000 of the bright yellow flower stigmas — the flavoring agent of saffron — to make just one dry pound of it. Long considered a "spice of kings," saffron is even given special designations and protections in countries like Spain, where it’s used in many traditional dishes. As a spice flavoring and color agent for food, saffron is also used widely in Persian, Indian, European, and Arab cuisines.
