There are glimpses of beauty and life along the trail if you just take the time to see them. “See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.” Mt 6:28-29
We encounter God’s Grace as we progress, sometimes in the form of bridges that make the impassable possible, “… for nothing will be impossible for God.” Luke 1:37
Even though the path may steep and treacherous, it’s about patiently moving one step forward at a time. “Every mountain top is within reach if you just keep climbing.” And so is Heaven.
There are times when we might fall, but we must get back up again and continue towards our goal. “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
With every footfall we progress towards our goal as with every effort, every prayer, and every sacrifice we grow closer to God. “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, 'Your God reigns!'” Isaiah 52:7
Our fellow travelers give us the strength to persevere and navigate the path ahead “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” Mt 18:20
There are obstacles that need to be overcome. “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Phil 4:13
Sometimes we need a shoulder to lean on or a hand to hold to keep us steady. “… if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.” 1 Cor 13:2
There are many threats along the way that can stop us from reaching the top both physically and spiritually. “I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2
As we climb we move further and further away from the distractions and temptations of the world. As we leave the world behind we grow more deeply in our relationship with Christ. “You shall seek me, and shall find me: when you shall seek me with all your heart.” Jer 29:13
God knows how difficult it is for us to make the ascent, which is why gives us the sacraments, His grace and His mercy. “Do not fear: I am with you; do not be anxious: I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
If the mountain represents the path to Heaven, then when we reach the Summit of life we will behold the Face of Christ. “One thing I ask of the LORD; this I seek: To dwell in the LORD’s house all the days of my life, To gaze on the LORD’s beauty, to visit his temple.” Psalm 77:4
