A network of German supermarkets called Edeka has produced an ad to remind the public that one of the most important parts of Christmas is spending time with family. There are good reasons many cannot be with family members at Christmas, of course, but the ad’s message goes beyond this. We are called to think about those who may be alone at this time of year — neighbors, elderly people in nursing homes, the imprisoned, the sick, the immigrant, the friend whose family lives far away. Who’s loneliness can we ease this Christmas?
