The parish is the presence of the Church in a given territory, an environment for hearing God’s word, for growth in the Christian life, for dialogue, proclamation, charitable outreach, worship and celebration. —Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium #28
In the early 1920s, a Texas parish called Our Lady of Guadalupe was moved from downtown Austin to East Austin. The Salas family, completely dedicated to their parish, moved so they could remain in close proximity to their church. They are among the deepest-rooted families in the area, and some of the Salas sisters still live in the same house. In this lovely video, the sisters reminisce about the past, share how faith and family were intertwined growing up and talk about what it was, and still is, like for their lives to revolve around Our Lady of Guadalupe.
