The ampoule with blood — the relic — is preserved in a glass container.Pope Francis kissing the reliquary with the blood of John Paul II, during World Youth Day.

It was the most moving moment during the Holy Mass he celebrated in St John Paul II Shrine, in Krakow, on Saturday morning. The occasion was a special Mass intended for priests, male and female religious, consecrated persons and Polish seminarians gathered in St John Paul II Shrine in Kraków..

The blood was taken from Saint Karol Wojtyla during one of the last examinations before his death at the Gemelli Clinic, in Rome.

Earlier this week, he prayed before relics of John Paul at Krakow’s cathedral.
