Up&Up is the third single from Coldplay’s acclaimed new album, A Head Full of Dreams, which, to many fans’ disappointment, is quite possibly the band’s last, as frontman Chris Martin has indicated.

“Head Full of Dreams, for me, is like a treasure map for how to get through the day. It’s taken a long time to get to to, and I’m so happy we’ve gotten to it,” said Martin in a recent interview with Radio.com.

The video for Up&Up is a surreal visual feast, flashing from a popcorn-erupting volcano to flying stingrays to synchronized swimmers in a teacup. But in the midst of the whimsy, some more serious images enter the picture, like overcrowded refugee boats and children walking across war-torn landscape.

The last lines of the song bring it all together:

I know, we’re gonna get it, get it together and float || We’re gonna get it, get it together and go || Up, and up, and up

Fixing up a car to drive in it again || When you’re in pain, when you think you’ve had enough || Don’t ever give up || Don’t ever give up

Believe in love

Martin said of the video that he thought it was “one of the best videos people have made.” We couldn’t agree more.
