Princess Charlotte of Cambridge turns two today, and to mark the event the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Will and Kate, have released a rare photo of the little princess taken by her mom — and what a big girl she is now! The shot captures a sweet little princess who has suddenly got a thick head of hair, kept back by a little bow, gazing wistfully ahead. We’re not sure what is cuter, her yellow Fair Isle knit cardigan decorated with little sheep, or the way the princess is already practicing her regal pose, full of restraint and with not a hair out of place — a feat for any mom with a two-year-old!

As Will and Kate have released very few photos of the little sister to Prince George (the last time she was seen in public was at church on Christmas day), these rare photos remind us just how quickly our little babies grow into toddlers, full of independence, tantrums — although surely not if one is a princess! — and lots of new words. Perhaps as Princess Charlotte approaches these exciting milestones she’ll be able to keep up with her more boisterous big brother, George, who’ll turn four in July.
So a very happy second birthday to this “joy from heaven” (as Charlotte’s parents describe her), who seems to resemble her father at the same age with those gentle blue eyes and sweet cheeks. We look forward to seeing some more photos of the little tot as she takes on her first official duty as flower girl at her Aunt Pippa’s wedding at the end of the month — here’s hoping she manages to stay as perfectly poised for all those hundreds of wedding pics!
