Archbishop Allen Vigneron and Michael Sullivan, Provincial Minister of the Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Joseph, pray at the tomb of Father Solanus Casey in Detroit. The Archdiocese of Detroit said Pope Francis has announced the beatification of Father Casey, a significant step toward canonization as a saint. Archbishop Vigneron said in a statement that the beatification of the priest “is an incomparable grace” for the Church and the Detroit area. Casey died in 1957 at age 86. He was a member of the Capuchin Franciscan Order of the Province of St. Joseph and one of the founders of Detroit’s Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
