Francis asks Cardinal Cupich to visit hurricane devastation in Puerto Rico

Next week’s visit to bring assurance of closeness, material aidAccording to the Archdiocese of San Juan Puerto Rico, Pope Francis has asked Chicago’s Cardinal Blase Cupich to visit the island in the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Maria.

The cardinal will be on the island next week, reported the Chicago Tribune, in order to be close to the people and their pastors.

The American cardinal is chancellor of Catholic Extension,  a pontifical society supporting poor mission dioceses. The organization already provided $350,000 to Puerto Rico.
