This is the room in the Motherhouse in Calcutta, India, where Mother Teresa lived and worked from the 1950s until her death in 1997. Mother held Council meetings, took phone calls, wrote letters and met with the Sisters here … her door was always open for them.

The world map and the map of India served to help Mother show her Sisters where foundations were opened. The handwritten chart lists the names of the foundations of the Missionaries of Charity in existence at the time of Mother’s death.

It was from this room and from this bed that Mother went home to God. In her struggle to breathe just before she died, Mother looked intently at the Cross and the crown of thorns beneath the framed picture of the Holy Face of Jesus.
