A statue of Our Lady of Fatima arrives at Castel Sant’Angelo Square in Rome, May 13, 2006, to be carried in procession to St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican to mark the 25th anniversary of an attempt on the life of pope John Paul II in St. Peter’s Square in 1981.The pontiff credited the Virgin Mary with preventing him from being killed that day by Turkish assailant Mehmet Ali Agca.
