Love Good brings beauty to the forefront of our media consumption and unites people in what it really means to be human.Jimmy Mitchell is the founder and chief curator of Love Good, a media company that inspires everyday consumers to build a better culture. Jimmy believes deeply in the power of beauty to change the world, and travels year-round sharing his gift of storytelling and piano-playing. More than anything, he enjoys time with family and friends over good music, old books, and local coffee.

CECILIA: Dear Jimmy, what is Love Good and how is it working to build a better culture?

Love Good promotes music, books, and events that inspire everyday consumers to build a better culture. It was born out of a deep desire to raise the standard for media and culture in my own life. It’s so easy in today’s world to feel isolated. As much as I love technology, it often turns me in on myself. I too quickly settle for counterfeit beauty or cliché alternatives. Since culture has always been about helping people share life together well, Love Good brings beauty to the forefront of our media consumption and unites people in what it really means to be human. Over time, we help people love what is good so they can become what they love and change the world.

What is shallow entertainment and why do we keep consuming it?

Shallow entertainment is most of what we consume in mainstream media. Some would even call it mindless amusement or an escape from reality. We keep consuming it because it’s everywhere and the Christian alternatives are usually lacking in artfulness and authenticity. Shallow entertainment stands in stark contrast to the ideal of leisure, which is an entering into reality that makes us more human. Have you ever listened to an album or read a book that inspired noble desires and genuine encounter? That’s what media has the potential to do, if only we raise our standard and invest in artists making it happen in today’s world.

Who are the members of your team?

We have an amazing team of part-time staff and year-round apprentices. Alanna Boudreau, a singer/songwriter out of Syracuse, New York, directs all of our content. From overseeing our blog and podcast to curating all the exclusive content that lands in seasonal packages to our patrons, she’s on the front lines of raising the standard. Jessamyn Anderson, trained as an opera singer and marketing expert, directs all of our communications by way of email, social media, and events. Marisol Alicea recently joined our team and runs all of our day-to-day operations, including a new apprenticeship program for young adults looking to spend a gap year in intentional prayer, community, leisure, and accompaniment.

How many patrons does Love Good have? How can we become one?

We currently have over 400 patrons from 7 countries. When we hit 1,000 patrons, we’re launching a mobile app exclusively for our patrons. At 4,000, we’re opening a coffee shop in our most patron-populated city. For a limited time, you can subscribe as a patron and get a free welcome package alongside our September shipment. Simply go to lovegoodculture.com/join and subscribe as a patron today.

What were you doing at the time when you launched Love Good? What were some of the challenges of getting it off the ground?

Love Good launched in 2013 with a 45-city tour across the United States. In between hosting summer camps and speaking at youth conferences that summer, I was testing my chops as a booking agent and tour manager. And as you can imagine, the pace was not even close to sustainable for my mental health. By that fall, we immediately began shipping beautiful new music all over the country. Our patrons have since helped us grow to nearly every continent and expand our offerings beyond music into books, art, and apparel.

What does Love Good have in the works now?

We are currently booking our Fireside Tour of house concerts all over the United States. Contact info@lovegoodculture.com if you are interested in bringing one of our artists to your living room for a night of beautiful music and culture. We also have new video content releasing every week, so follow our YouTube channel to enjoy it before anyone else.

7) Where can we download the FREE SUMMER MIX TAPE?

Go to lovegoodculture.com/free and download away! This mixtape includes free music from me, Alanna Boudreau, The Hunts, Audrey Assad, and so many more. It’s only available for a few more weeks, so get it while you can.

MINI BIO

Name: Jimmy Mitchell

Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia

Current City: Nashville, Tennessee

Latest Album: Love [An Epic]

Interesting Fact: I touched the pope once. On an early Roman morning over ten years ago, I climbed a few fences and elbowed my way through crowds to sit front row at a papal audience. It all seemed a little crazy at the time but totally worth it when Pope Benedict and I clasped hands on his way to a crowd of thousands cheering him on in St. Peter’s Square.
