Taylor Tripodi: You are first and foremost a child of God

Taylor Tripodi is a young Catholic woman from Cleveland, Ohio, who, more than anything else, desires to use her voice in any and every way to glorify Christ and bring the whole world into deeper intimacy with Him. Cecilia Music sat down to talk to her about  her new song and music video.

CECILIA MUSIC: “Awakening” marks one of the most important moments of your life. Do you feel like sharing this passage?

The song “Awakening” came to me at a point in my life where I was so dry spiritually. My heart was stale and dry.

What does being a “child of God” really mean?

It means that nothing else defines us first. Only this reality. Not the lies in our heads, not other people’s opinions, not our own weakness, not even our own strength! Our identity is rooted in God’s never failing love for us as sons and daughters. It means that we are loved, accepted, and treasured no matter what we’ve done or where we’ve been. This is something we can stake all our hope on.

The current scandals in the American Church are devastating. How can we wake up as a church from this nightmare?

The recent scandal has caused me to realize how much I need to stay in the gaze of Christ and live authentically. I hate to reference back to my song, but truly, this is a time where we need to have an awakening as a Church. We need to rise up and not be afraid to make our voices heard and make our devotion sincere. Saints are born when we chose to abandon ourselves to the love of God and live our lives radiating that love. We are called to be light in the darkness, and that begins with surrender.

What do you have you in the works now?

I am now working on a new EP — the title song being Awakening — with Papercastle Records in Nashville. It will be releasing sometime at the end of this year. I am SO EXCITED to share it with you.
