The first ever multi-season epic series about the life of Christ is finishing up its second season. The Chosen, the #1 crowdfunded media project in history, will finish its sophomore season on July 11. The episode will be simulcast on YouTube, Facebook, and The Chosen app.

While the first season focused on assembling the apostles, season two portrays Jesus’ growing fame and increasing conflicts with authorities. Series creator Dallas Jenkins hinted that the season two finale will feature the Sermon on the Mount. In a press release, Jenkins said:

One of the best parts of The Chosen is that the whole series is available to view for free. App users are given an option to “pay it forward” and donate towards this passion project. So far, the vast majority of the show’s production has been crowdfunded in this way.

In fact, they broke their own crowdfunding records in 2021. The first season raised about $10 million from 19,000 donors. This year the series brought in $12 million from more than 125,000 supporters. They have already begun crowdfunding for season three, and they intend to begin raising funds for season four soon. Creators say they have planned for seven seasons.

The Chosen has earned a stellar reputation as a high-quality, faithful retelling of the biblical narratives. The premiere of the second season was viewed by more than 750,000, placing the show in competition with releases from major labels like HBO. The show has been viewed in more than 200 countries and has been translated into over 50 languages.

If you missed the first season, that can be viewed on the app too, but it is also currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
