A 15-story building went up in flames in Milan. Only a crucifix remained intact.
According to residents, it's a miracle, because the fire didn't cause any deaths -- and not only thanks to a swift evacuation. The crucifix was in an apartment on the top floor, where a non-religious doctor lived with his family:
We lost everything. Even the safe installed in the wall was burnt and melted. Only one thing was not only saved, but intact: a crucifix. I kept it in a plastic bag: that ended up good as new, too.
Pure chance?
If it is, it still makes you think.
And that Sunday, the doctor had convinced his wife to visit the sea with their children, while he was working at the hospital.
Not even he can explain why precisely on that day he had insisted so much. Consequently, at the moment of the fire, no one was at home; otherwise, they would've been trapped.
The coincidence thanks to which we are alive has disconcerted us. I can only qualify what I've seen as incredible.
