A week after Officer Jason Rivera was killed in the line of duty, thousands of fellow officers, friends, and family came to bid him farewell at a funeral Mass celebrated at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.
In his homily, Fr. Robert J. Abbatiello, pastor of the Monastery Church of the Sacred Heart in Yonkers, recalled Rivera as a loving husband and son, and a “dedicated public servant” who “made a difference.”
These photographs taken by photojournalist Jeffrey Bruno beautifully capture what those present witnessed outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral: a solemn but emotional tribute to a man who died doing what he loved, serving and protecting the people of New York.
