A post sent by 32-year-old Brazilian doctor Lucas Augusto Pires minutes before he was taken to the ICU for COVID-19 has gone viral beyond the limits of his native country and language.
The neurosurgeon, already in serious condition, wrote in July 2021 that he caught the disease doing what he loved: working as a doctor. In the post, he says he’d do it all over again:
Despite the urgency of his situation, he took time to bear witness to his faith in God and His plans for each of us:
Complications from COVID-19 overwhelmed his body, and he died on August 8, 2020. He left behind a wife and two young children. The story has recently been reshared on social media and news websites in different languages throughout the world, and has once again moved the hearts of countless people.
When he died, expressions of gratitude for the young doctor’s work flooded social networks. Even today, his life—marked by courage and love for his profession—inspires relatives, friends, and strangers, who are proud of the hero who gave his life to save others.
