An ancient title for our Blessed Mother is Our Lady, Star of the Sea. The title was most likely given to her in the 4th century, by the great Doctor of the Church St. Jerome.
In the 12th century, St. Bernard of Clairvaux wrote:
As so many peoples are suffering from the effects of hurricanes or typhoons in the last few days, we turn to Our Lady and ask her, as a tender mother, to console those who have lost loved ones and to restore material goods to those who have lost property. We ask her to take the souls of the deceased to her Son.
Our Lady, Star of the Sea, we pray for the victims of Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Nova Scotia.
Our Lady, Star of the Sea, we pray for the victims of Hurricane Ian in Cuba and in Florida.
Our Lady, Star of the Sea, we pray for the victims of Super Typhoon Noru in the Philippines.
Our Lady, Star of the Sea, for these and all other victims of the raging of the sea, we pray.
