When we present ourselves before God, instead of making a show of our pretended virtues, we must recognize and confess our misery and our nothingness, for they are what attracts God. There is an infallible means of attracting our Lord, and—I dare say—of obtaining from him whatever we will, namely, our nothingness. A soul that abases itself is all-powerful before God.
