Young Josiah puts so much energy into his prayer life and shows us the power of praying in front of your children.

A recent viral video shows 4-year-old Josiah giving his all when he says his prayers, and it will certainly help bring a smile to the end of your week for all the right reasons.

The youngster was praying for his health, but he was emulating his grandmother's tone and mannerisms, according to his mom Stacy Robinson, who shared the video on TikTok.

With a lot of emphatic head-shaking and arm gestures, you can really see the depth of Josiah's prayers as he proclaims:

“Oh God, oh God! Just heal my body, oh God! Just bless my soul right this minute, oh God! Bless my soul and heal my sickness! Oh God, take my sickness away. Oh God... "

Robinson rightly describes her son as a "prayer warrior," and we can feel his prayers will lead to his good health! However, while it's delightful to see the youngster so earnestly in prayer, it reminds us the important role the older generations have in transmitting their faith to younger members of the family -- even at an early age.

An introduction to faith

The act of an elder visibly living out their faith leaves a lasting impression, not through words but through example. When young children witness such moments, especially within the intimate space of family life, it often becomes their first introduction to spirituality.

In Catholic tradition, where rituals such as the Rosary and personal devotions are cherished, seeing a grandparent engage in these practices can plant seeds of faith and reflection in young hearts. And as this video shows, those seeds are well and truly sprouting!

But the impact goes beyond religion. Psychologists and educators often emphasize the importance of intergenerational modeling — when older family members demonstrate values such as gratitude, humility, and perseverance, children naturally absorb these lessons.

Moreover, praying together as a family (or simply observing a loved one in prayer) strengthens intergenerational bonds. There's something powerful about a child realizing that their elders rely on faith to navigate life’s joys and struggles. It quietly affirms that they, too, can turn to a spiritual practice in times of uncertainty.

Continuity in prayer

One beautiful aspect of Catholic culture is its emphasis on continuity. Just as prayers have been passed down over centuries, so too can they be passed down in families. A grandmother's quiet -- or this case, expressive -- devotion becomes a touchstone for younger generations, a reminder of shared traditions and values. And, as in the heartwarming TikTok video, it’s often surprising and touching to see young children mirroring these deeply personal expressions of faith.

Witnessing prayer doesn’t just introduce a child to spiritual practices -- it invites them into a legacy of love, reverence, and hope. Whether or not they fully grasp its meaning at a young age, such moments leave indelible marks, shaping their perspectives for years to come.
