After the negative report on Saturday evening saying that Francis' condition was critical, the Holy See had reassuring news on Sunday morning.

“The night was quiet, the Pope rested,” the Vatican said on the morning of February 23, 2025, now the 10th day of Pope Francis’ hospitalization at Gemelli.

Last night, a medical bulletin warned that the 88-year-old pontiff’s condition was “critical” and declined to give a prognosis, saying it was "guarded." This negative development came after he suffered a “prolonged asthmatic respiratory crisis” on Saturday morning that required the use of high-flow oxygen. He also needed blood transfusions.

A further update is expected later today.

Prayer for the Pope

Heavenly Father, we pray for Francis, our Pope.
May he and all who are sick feel their companionship with your Son, the suffering Christ.
Grant him rest and health.
Holy Spirit, give his doctors your knowledge and wisdom.
Amen.
Like the sisters of Bethany, Lord we send you this message:
Jesus, the one you love is ill.
