The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines is celebrating the success of the 2025 Walk for Life, an annual show of support for pro-life causes run by the CBCP. Photos of the event were shared on social media, showing a large crowd turned out to Walk for Life.
The CBCP reported that about 3,500 signed up for the Walk for Life, but expects the number in attendance was even higher due to walk-in participants.
Prior to the event, the faithful of the Philippines were encouraged to join in the celebration of life in all its stages by Cardinal Jose Advincula, Archbishop of Manila. He noted that the Jubilee Year 2025 offers a unique chance to reaffirm the Catholic commitment to protecting life and urged Catholics to reflect on the “numerous threats on the family and life, especially concerning social policies and models.”
“This Jubilee Year is an opportune time to confirm our commitment as pilgrims of hope advocating the sanctity and importance of life from conception to natural death,” Advincula said over Radio Veritas.
Organized by the CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity (ECL), the Episcopal Commission on Family and Life (ECFL), and the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, The Walk for Life began at 4 a.m. on Feb. 23, starting from Rizal Park and proceeding to Manila Cathedral.
At the Cathedral, Bishop Severo Caermare of Dipolog, chairman of the bishops’ Commission on the Laity, spoke on the coming elections in the Philippines and the importance of electing leaders who support pro-life policies.
“As we face challenges in our nation’s leadership — where transparency and accountability may waver and the life of the nation is at stake, let us be beacons of hope by making informed choices in the leaders we support," Caermare said. “Together, we strengthen our commitment to uphold the sanctity of life, defend the family, and protect the most vulnerable among us.”
In the remainder of his speech, he reminded the crowd of the importance of defending life in both families and for the nation’s future. The bishop also encouraged pro-lifers to uphold “the sanctity of life today, tomorrow and always.”
The bishop added. “Our collective efforts can shape a future that values life: life in the family and life of our beloved country.”
