Ryan Brewington had no idea he was going to catch the biggest fish of his life when he got on the Cape Fear river. He pulled in a fish weighing 112 lbs with a normal reel and some pretty light line, but it held and in the end he held a fish that was almost as big as he was!

It was a whale of a catch, except the whale was actually a fish! A North Carolina man recently caught a 112-pound catfish in the Cape Fear River. Riahn Brewington told local ABC affiliate WWAY he went fishing the day before Thanksgiving and was surprised to reel in the big catch. “I didn’t realize how big he was until I actually got my hands underneath him,” he said.

Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to break the record, set at 117, but this is still an incredible feat that we’re glad he shared. Cheers, Ryan!
