For prayer and reflection
“You should not be concerned about anything for this present life except to make God reign in your heart by his grace and by the fulness of his love. You should be living for him; the life of God ought to be the life of your soul.”—Saint John Baptist de la Salle
Spiritual bonus
On May 19 we also remember Saint Ivo of Kermartin. An attorney who defended the poor and imprisoned at no charge, was later became a judge and distinguished himself for his piety and personal integrity. Ivo was ordained a priest in 1284 and gave up his legal work a few years later, dedicating himself to parish ministry. This noted preacher and friend of the poor—who also built a hospital using his own resources—died on May 19, 1303, in Louannec, France, and was canonized in 1347. He is honored as a patron saint of lawyers and judges.
Prayer
O God, by whose gift blessed Raphaël Louis persevered in imitating Christ, poor and lowly, grant us through his intercession that, faithfully walking in our own vocation, we may reach the perfection you have set before us in your Son. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
