SAINT OF THE DAY

Martyrs (d. ca. 68)

Their story

+ According to ancient traditions, Anastasia and Basilissa were noble women who learned the Christian Faith from Saint Peter and Saint Paul.

+ During the persecutions of the Emperor Nero, these women courageously buried the bodies of murdered Christians.

+ They were eventually arrested and tortured, but refused to deny their faith in Christ.

+ Anastasia and Basilissa were beheaded in the year 68.

Spiritual bonus

On this day, the Church honors the memory of Blessed Ceasar de Bus, the founder of the Fathers of Christian Doctrine and the patron of catechists. After living a life dedicated to catechizing both children and adults and creating a unique method of catechesis, he died in 1607. Blessed Caesar was beatified in 1975.

For reflection

The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom should I fear?
The LORD is my life’s refuge;
of whom should I be afraid?”—Psalm 27 1-2

Prayer

Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that, though in our weakness we fail,
we may be revived through the Passion of your Only Begotten Son.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
