Saints Eithne and Fedelemia

Daughters of King Leoghaire of Ireland.

EITHNE

Niall McAuley CC

Holy Women – (Fifth Century)

Their story

+ Eithne and Fedelemia were the daughters of King Leoghaire of Ireland.

+ The two sisters met Saint Patrick near the found at Clebach and, after receiving instruction in the Christian Faith, were baptized and received the Eucharist.

+ According to tradition, Eithne and Fedelemia dedicated their lives to helping build up the Church in Ireland, supporting the work of early bishops and missionary-monks.

+ A church was built over the graves and their relics were later enshrined in the cathedral of Armagh.

Spiritual bonus

Today the Church celebrates the memory of an early pope: Saint Hyginus. While he served the Church during a time when there were no persecutions, his spent his papacy dealing with various heretical groups. Pope Saint Hyginus died around the year 138.

Quote

“The woman who fears the Lord will herself be praised.”—Psalm 31:30

Prayer
Grant, we pray, almighty God, that the revered intercession of blessed Eithne and Fedelmia may bring us heavenly aid, just as their wonderful lives point the way to salvation for us all. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
