GENEVIEVE

Virgin – (422-512)

Her life

+ Genevieve was born near Paris.

+ When she was seven years old, Genevieve met Saint Germain of Auxerre. The holy bishop foretold her future glory and, at her request, led her to a church and consecrated her to the service of God. At the age of fifteen, Genevieve received the veil of a consecrated virgin.

+ After the death of her parents, Genevieve moved to Paris, acquiring a reputation for holiness and charity.

+ According to a long-standing tradition, her prayers and guidance saved the city from destruction by the army of Attila.

+ Saint Genevieve died in 512 and many miracles were attributed to her intercession. She is honored as the patroness of Paris.

Spiritual Bonus

January 3 is the Commemoration of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, “at which every knee must bend, in the heavens and on earth,” to the glory of the Divine Majesty (see Philippians 2:10).

Quote

“There is one thing I ask of the Lord, only this do I seek: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.”—Psalm 27:4

Prayer
Hear us, God our Savior, that, as we rejoice in commemorating the Virgin blessed Genevieve, we may be instructed by her loving devotion. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
