Seven killed at Catholic charity center in Mariupol, Ukraine

A Russian tank fired on the offices of Caritas Ukraine in the besieged city of Mariupol, leaving seven dead, including two employees, reported to the charity.

Caritas-Spes, the charitable mission of the Latin Rite Catholic bishops of Ukraine announced the deaths of their staff members in a Twitter post on Monday.

“We received bad news: our Caritas office in Mariupol was shot from a tank and people were there at the time. Seven people were killed, including two women staff members of Caritas Mariupol,” read the post.

In a separate Tweet, Caritas Ukraine, the charitable agency of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, posted details of the attack:

Deaths in Mariupol reach 10,000

The mayor of Mariupol told the Associated Press on Monday that more than 10,000 civilians have died since he Russians began their attack on the city.

Mayor Vadym Boychenko added that Russians forces brought mobile cremation equipment to the city in an attempt to conceal how many people have died.

“Mobile crematoriums have arrived in the form of trucks: You open it, and there is a pipe inside and these bodies are burned,” he said, according to the AP report.
