Becoming a priest takes years of discernment, study, and sacrifice. Therefore, when a man decides that he is going to take his vows and dedicate his life to God, it's truly worth celebrating. In fact, so much so that in Lebanon, people will take to the streets to party!

As you can see, the Maronite Catholic priest is paraded around the streets -- and even carried at times -- in recognition of the commitment he has made to God, and in turn, the parishioners he will serve.
In the video you can also witness the slightly bashful priest walking through the streets accompanied by fellow members of the clergy. And with all the petal throwing, ululations, and impressive dancing, he can see the sheer joy his ordination has brought to his community.
While in the United States the celebrations for a newly ordained priest are more low-key, the video may inspire us to be a little more expressive when honoring our new priests. It can also remind us of the importance of really making an effort to welcome a newly ordained priest as he begins his lifelong commitment to God, and all those he serves.
