Aspiring student filmmakers have a chance to raise awareness of the scourge of human trafficking while padding their resume and competing for prizes.

High school students in the US with an eye for filmmaking should not miss their chance to participate in a 2025 video contest from Alliance to End Human Trafficking. Participants will have the chance to raise awareness about this important human rights issue, while subsequently adding to their portfolio, and there’s even a chance to win some audio equipment to help with future filmmaking endeavors.

The short videos must respond to the prompt: “What Would You Do?” to help prevent human trafficking. Students may choose a potential human trafficking scenario to highlight with the goal of raising awareness, educating, and empowering viewers to identify and prevent such instances.

Submissions are welcomed from individuals, groups, or even an entire class and must be under three minutes in length. On the contest’s website, the organizers have offered a list of potential topics for videos: Sexting, Boyfriend Pimp or Romeo Trafficker, Sextortion, Online Grooming, and Pornography. The contest page notes, however, that these are only suggestions and students are welcome to approach other angles in relation to human trafficking.

Students are asked to first watch the “What Would You Do?” webinar, a video that informs on the plight of human trafficking, methods used by human traffickers, ways to identify a potential human trafficking scenario, signs shown by victims of human trafficking, and much more. Not only is the information important for everyday life, but it will also offer invaluable inspiration to participants who are unfamiliar with the inner workings of this criminal enterprise.

As for the prizes, the first place winner will receive a DXA-MICRO PRO+ adapter as the main prize, and all entrants will be entered into a drawing for a DXA-GO, the specs for each can be found on the Beachtek website

Alliance to End Human Trafficking is accepting submissions until March 30, with winners announced on April 30 and a virtual award ceremony on May 8. Visit the contest’s information page to learn more about its guidelines and requirements.
