Video: 7-Year-Old Syrian Girl Describes Her Journey on A Flimsy Raft to Greece

Zoe Romanowsky - published on 10/12/15

She longs to be back home with friends and have everything "back to normal"

What would it be like to make the arduous journey from Syria to Europe, across the often-perilous Mediterranean sea as a child? This little girl, interviewed by UNICEF, shares her experience traveling from her war-torn homeland to the Greek island of Lesbos. She describes her longing for friends back home, and her hopes to return some day.

This little girl is one of the fortunate ones. Al Jazeerareports that more than half a million refugees have crossed the Mediterranean so far this year, almost 400,000 of them via Greece. Many never make it to shore, and the ones that do still have a difficult and uncertain journey to what they hope will be a brighter future.
