ISIS video features North American-accented, masked speaker
WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man believed to be from North America who appears in a promotional video released by the Islamic State group.
The FBI released a segment of the video in hopes of generating tips about the man’s identity. Within a day, the FBI said it had received hundreds of tips and leads.
The man appears in the video in desert camouflage, with his face mostly obscured, and speaks English with what the FBI calls a North American accent.
FBI Director Jim Comey (KOH’-mee) has said about a dozen Americans are believed to be fighting alongside the Islamic State.
The video release is part of an effort to enlist public help in identifying Westerners seeking to join the fighting in Syria.
