Shake away, shake away the old chains in my life
Michael Patrick “Paddy” Kelly was born in Dublin, Ireland on December 5, 1977. In the ’90s, together with his band “The Kelly Family,” he sold over 20 million cds. But despite the extraordinary success at a young age, in 2004 he decided to retire from public life.
Michael was looking for a quiet place for his soul to abide. He entered a monastery where he came to know the joys of the contemplative life, and the mysterious treasures hidden in the desert. He remembers this period as the most extraordinary time in his life, yet he felt called to another mission.
With “Shake Away,” Paddy Kelly returns to the music world and invites us to join him on this journey to happiness.
Are you looking for your path?
Shake away! Shake off the chains, free yourself from burdens, and complication. Love, build a simple life, cultivate authentic relationships.
The desert is an important reality for Michael. It isn’t a final solution, but rather a necessary step for rediscovering the meaning of life.
If you can’t travel to the desert, you can still “make one” by detaching yourself from people and distractions. And once you have tasted the delight of solitude with God, you can return, but in a completely new way: with greater love, with greater joy, keeping a part of the desert in your heart, like a quiet room where you can take refuge and abide at any time.
Paddy Kelly tells us about a man searching for his deepest roots, and he gives us a beautiful picture of his experience. Leaving home with only a backpack, he goes to the threshold of infinity and invites us to join us on a journey across vast and luminous expanses. Let yourself be shaken by his words and transported by his music as he takes you to a place of peace.
“Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the desert and speak tenderly to her heart” (Hosea 2:14-15).
The song “Shake Away” is from the album “Human.”
