In the midst of an unsettling season, strong hits of summer, in word and beverage[Aleteia loves books but recognizes that a world busy with social media doesn’t afford many prompts to that old conversation-starter, “Read any good books lately?” So, we’re asking it in this space. Here, author and radio host Jennifer Fulwiler shares what she is up to, bookwise. – Ed.]

“I’m reading Summer Lightning by P.G. Wodehouse,” says Jen, “I chose it because I am so exhausted by all the fighting and drama on social media right now. I needed to escape to a world where people’s biggest worries were whether or not the butler had polished the silver.”

Is she liking the book? “I absolutely love the dry British humor. It’s exactly what I needed.”

By the way, the beverage she’s holding in the hand not showing the book is what Jen calls, “the ultimate Wodehouse drink.” Not, as one would suspect, a gin and tonic, but a Pimm’s and lemonade.

Please consider the Christmas lights twinkling in the far room behind Jen to be a celebration of Candlemas, recently observed, if you like. Or an anticipation of Valentine’s Day. Life is for celebrating!
