Pope calling presidents of the world’s bishops’ conferences to Rome for meeting on abuse

Global gathering will take place February 21-24Pope Francis will convene the leaders of bishops’ conferences from around the world to discuss the sexual abuse crisis in the Church and the protection of minors.

The Vatican announced the meeting today. It will be held February 21-24, 2019, and was convoked with the advice of the Holy Father’s Council of Cardinals.

The Council’s 26th meeting is just concluding. During this meeting, the statement said, “the Council reflected extensively together with the Holy Father on the theme of abuse.”

There are more than 100 episcopal conferences around the world; larger countries have their own and others are established according to geographical regions.
