Down Syndrome Awareness Month is officially in October, but any time is a good time to honor some remarkable men and women who consistently prove that an extra chromosome doesn’t need to stop you from pursuing dreams.

Here are 10 people who have all achieved, in a short space of time, much more than the majority of us will achieve in a lifetime. From rare musical talent to completing impressive physical challenges, these men and women are showing the world that their differences are part of what makes them the inspirational people they are. They’re standing up to be counted, and to encourage others who may have physical or intellectual challenges, to show that they, too, are capable of incredible things.

Readers like you contribute to Aleteia's Mission.

Since our inception in 2012, Aleteia’s readership has grown rapidly worldwide. Our team is committed to a mission of providing articles that enrich, inspire and inform a Catholic life. That's why we want our articles to be freely accessible to everyone, but we need your help to do that. Quality journalism has a cost (more than selling ads on Aleteia can cover). That's why readers like you make a major difference by donating as little as $3 a month.
