The young brother and sister duo want the elderly to feel they’re not alone.Throughout the last year we’ve seen some truly inspirational individuals who’ve stepped up to try and help those in need during the pandemic. While their charitable efforts have boosted the spirits of those they’ve been helping, they’ve also given the rest of us a boost, just knowing that there is goodness all around us.

Recently, CBS News reported on a pair of siblings — 16-year-old Hita Gupta and her 10-year-old brother Divit. The brother-sister duo have teamed up to bring a smile to seniors who are feeling alone in isolation.

Thanks to their non-profit “Brighten a Day,” the siblings are ensuring that thousands of elderly nursing home residents do not feel abandoned. Through Zoom calls, song recordings, care packages, notes and images, those in isolation have a little contact with the outside world. In fact, the group has even managed (through GoFundMe) to raise money to buy iPads so these senior citizens can stay connected with loved ones. And one octogenarian reported having a “smile from ear to ear” thanks to a recent FaceTime call.

With now over 50 chapters, the organization has recruited other like-minded youngsters to bring a little love to the vulnerable. The efforts of the Gupta children are remarkable, and while Hita reminds us that “it’s easy to make a difference” to those in need, it does take a lot of time and compassion to devote yourself to such a worthy cause. And it’s always heartening to see siblings working together to spread a little joy!
