Today’s intention: For all those who provide essential services

During the month of May, the Church around the world is joining in a daily Rosary for the intention of the end of the pandemic, as well as a specific intention related to the various victims of the virus.

Each day of the month, a different shrine will lead the daily Rosary, according to local practice.

The beginning and the end of the Rosary Marathon (May 1 and May 31) are led by Pope Francis.

See below to follow the list of the Shrines.

Watch the Rosary live at 6 p.m. Rome time (12 noon EDT) by clicking here. The video screen at the top will go live at the designated time.

Day 24 intention: For all those who provide essential services

For today’s Rosary Relay, we turn to Our Lady of Lourdes, but not in France. Rather, we go to suffering country of Myanmar.

The National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Nyaunglaybin, Yangon Diocese, was opened in the early 1900s. In this small town, the French Missionary Fathers (MEP) opened a Mission in 1902.

The shrine is 145 km (90 mi) north of Yangon, and getting there requires a rather arduous journey. Many, however, make the sacrifice, in a spirit of pilgrimage, to honor Our Lady.

The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is celebrated here every year with a Novena and Masses and special Marian Devotions.

The 103rd anniversary of the shrine, together with the National Eucharistic Congress, was celebrated here in February 2005.
