While it's not unusual for members of the clergy to be sports fans, it's always great to see them vocally support their teams, and perhaps bring about a little Divine Intervention!
In his short message that was posted on Youtube, the prelate reminded us of some very crucial elements to sports, and how they echo some tenets of the Catholic faith.
As Archbishop Perez pointed out, our teams allow us "to hope, to believe, to celebrate." And even if the Phillies, or our own favorite teams, don't win their games or championships, they'll have taken us on an exciting journey that unites us, and allows our sporting heroes to be the best that they can be for their fans.
And isn't that we are called to do here on earth, as Christians? To be united in our love for our biggest fan: our Heavenly Father!
