While traveling the Via Francigena, Andrea Bocelli will meet with a variety of Christian singers, and even Pope Francis!

World-renowned Catholic singer Andrea Bocelli is taking a journey to the big screen in a new feature documentary that’s coming to theaters this April. Titled The Journey: A Musical Special from Andrea Bocelli, the film will share with viewers musical performances and intimate conversations across the awe-inspiring Italian countryside.

Viewers will join Andrea Bocelli and his wife, Veronica, as they travel sections of the Via Francigena, a famed 1st-century pilgrimage route that winds from the Swiss Alps at St. Bernard’s Pass to the Italian capital, Rome. The route can normally take 50 days to travel, but Bocelli’s journey will condense the trek into 105 minutes.

Along the way, the Bocellis will be met by some of the biggest names in Christian music, including Tori Kelly, TAYA, Tauren Wells, and Michael W. Smith. While the songs these staples of the faith-music world will perform have not been announced, it is just as likely that they will dip into Bocelli’s operatic-leaning repertoire as it is for Bocelli to step into the realm of Christian pop to sing some of theirs. As a king of crossover music, Bocelli proved long ago that there is no genre that is beyond the range of his soaring tenor.

The talks Bocelli has with his guests are expected to expound upon the virtues of faith music and perhaps even dip into how working in the industry has touched their own faiths. A guest appearance by Pope Francis will certainly keep the focus on the heart and ultimate subject of every Christian song of faith: Jesus Christ.

The film is rounded out with additional guest appearances from Welsh soprano Katherine Jenkins; French soprano Clara Barbier Serrano; the famed Croatian duo 2Cellos; the Italian guitar quintet 40 Fingers; Andrea’s son, Matteo Bocelli, and more. With so many world-renowned performers displaying the best they have to offer, audiences can anticipate a dizzying amount of music for a monumental night out.

Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events, which is bringing the release to theaters, commented on the film:

“Andrea Bocelli is a masterful tenor and his voice, combined with the beautiful footage and music in THE JOURNEY make for an incredible event,” said Ray Nutt. “This documentary of Andrea’s faith-filled pilgrimage will be an incredible addition to theaters this Easter holiday.”

The Journey: A Musical Special from Andrea Bocelli will be released in US theaters on April 2, 3, and 4, with an additional day in theaters on April 6, 2023.
