When Dolly Parton was approached by pop star Sabrina Carpenter to do a duet of her hit song “Please Please Please,” Parton was excited – but had a few rules she needed to lay down before agreeing.
Namely: an explicit line in the chorus of the original song was absolutely not going to fly.
“Of course, she can talk a little bad now and then,” Parton, 79, recently told Knox News, a Knoxville, Tennessee-based outlet.
“I told her, I said, now, I don’t cuss. I don’t make fun of Jesus. I don’t talk bad about God,” said Parton.
Additionally, Parton told Carpenter that she does not “say dirty words, on camera,” but is “known to if I get mad enough.”
Carpenter presumably agreed to these rules. Their duet version of “Please Please Please” was released on February 14, 2025.
In it, the explicit line was changed to “don’t embarrass me like the others.”

Faith has been part of her life
Parton has long been open about her Christian faith. Her grandfather was a Pentecostal preacher, and faith has even played a role in her career.
On March 3, Parton’s husband Carl Dean died at the age of 82. The two had been married for 58 years.
Following his death, Parton released a song in tribute, titled “If You Hadn’t Been There.”
The song, said Parton, is “a love note to family, friends, and fans.”
"Thank you for all the messages, cards, and flowers that you've sent to pay your respects for the loss of my beloved husband Carl. I can’t reach out personally to each of you but just know it has meant the world to me."
Dean, said Parton, “is in God’s arms now and I am okay with that. I will always love you."
