The paper pontiff hit a few of the sites in Orlando yesterday, starting out at the Basilica Shrine of Mary Queen of the Universe.
Somehow, he found his way to Epcot.
He didn’t meet the height restrictions on the rides—which require that you be taller than 11″—but I did sneak him onto Test Track on my backpack.
We enjoyed a hearty lunch at the “Taste Track” food truck, with grilled cheese and tomato soup—though Francis and I agreed it would have been more satisfying if it were 50 degrees outside, not 95.
We took in a dinner show in the evening: the long-running “Hoop Dee Doo Review.” Because he is, you know, the pontiff, they gave us a front row table.
The target audience—those under the age of 10—loved it.
The meal—fried chicken, BBQ ribs, corn, mashed potatoes, strawberry shortcake—was every bit as light and refreshing as it sounds.
After dinner, we made our way back to Epcot, to catch the fireworks.
Turns out, a few other people had the same idea.
But the show was spectacular, and we had a great time.
