Donenricograssini CC
Religious (1851-1923)
Her life
+ Savina (or Sabrina) was born in Siena, Italy, and, as a child, developed a great devotion to Saint Catherine of Siena.
+ At the age of 15 she entered the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary and later served as president of the congregation.
+ Inspired by Blessed Pope Pius IX—who had urged Savina to walk in Saint Catherine’s footsteps—she established a new religious community which she named the Sisters of the Poor of St. Catherine of Siena. The sisters were dedicated to caring for the poor and homeless youth.
+ Blessed Savina died in Siena on April 18, 1923, and was beatified in 1988.
For prayer and reflection
“To the servant of God every place is the right place and every time is the right time.”—Saint Catherine of Siena
Prayer
O God, who give constant increase
to your Church by new offspring,
grant that your servants may hold fast in their lives
to the Sacrament they have received in faith.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
