Who has the best fish sandwich for on-the-go fasters this year?We are in the thick of Lent and so, as is tradition, Aleteia is proud to bring our readers a ranking of fast-food fish sandwiches! Inclement weather prevented us from taste testing on time, but we’re back just in time for the second Friday of Lent. Now lets see which drive-through establishment has the best meatless lunch of 2021!

The competition got a little tighter this year, as we’ve lost two fierce competitors. Unfortunately, Long John Silver, which took 2nd place last year, closed the only location your taste tester could reach. This was a major loss to the competition, as LJS is a veteran fish monger who knows what it’s doing.

Even more disappointing was that Chick-Fil-A took themselves out of the running. Imagine the rancor of driving a car load of hungry passengers to the window only to be told, in the most polite fashion, that the restaurant has dropped the menu item. This was especially vexing because Chick-Fil-A took home the gold medal in last year’s competition. Unfortunately, this year we advise that there is no reason to visit Chick-Fil-A on a Friday.

Thankfully, there was a new challenger to take the stage this year, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. In 2021, Popeyes expanded its seafood line with a Cajun-style flounder sandwich. With several types of fried shrimp already on the menu, they could be poised to become the go-to stop on the way home from a long Friday at work.

In the words of Micky Goldmill, “Well, what are we waiting for?” Take a look at the slideshow to see Aleteia’s 2021 Fish Sandwich ranking. Please note, entries are listed from worst to best.
