Lots of kids love to wind down at night with bedtime stories. A darling new podcast helps put little ones to sleep with hope-filled Catholic stories.
Catholic Bedtime Stories: A JuiceBox Series helps kids of all ages calm down and relax before drifting off to sleep. It’s the newest offering from always-excellent Spirit Juice Studios, the award-winning Catholic production company.
While suitable for all ages, the stories are intended for the same age range as the mega-popular Juice Box Catholic kids’ YouTube channel, about ages 3-10.
My four kids are all in that age range, so I did a little field research and played it for them at bedtime last night. They all loved the stories, and two of the four were fast asleep by the end of the second episode. I’d call that a resounding success!
A different kind of podcast
There are a number of excellent podcasts for Catholic kids. What makes this one different?
Producer Megan Lanz told Aleteia:
What really sets us apart is that these stories were specifically crafted with the practical purpose of helping parents get their little ones to fall asleep, so these kids are hopefully growing in their faith while drifting off to dreamland.
Each of our episodes focuses on characters in the Bible or the saints, both well-known and not as popular, and shares their stories in a way that immerses the listener in the world, inspires their imagination, and encourages them to dream of being these holy heroes themselves.
The stories also take a different perspective than you may expect to hear, really transporting you to a different time and place, taking you with the characters on their adventures, and sharing content that is based on the real stories of these real people while taking some creative liberties and injecting some of our own imaginings. We introduce you to these characters and hopefully spark a curiosity about the person so you want to learn more about them when you wake.
Our one "complaint"
When I asked my kids what they thought of the new podcast — the parts they’d been awake for, anyway — they said they loved it.
My oldest, however — the only child who’d stayed awake to hear the whole thing, and then began listening to it a second time — had just one complaint: “There weren’t enough episodes, Mom.”
The good news is that his concern will soon be remedied. “We release a new episode every week on Wednesday,” Lanz said.
That means there will be plenty of new bedtime stories to listen to in the weeks ahead, and we’ll be sure to catch them all.
“It's so heartwarming to hear that the listeners enjoy the stories just as much as I do,” Lanz said. Count us among the fan club.
A Catholic bedtime stories podcast is a very welcome addition to our family’s routine, and I bet your family will love it too. Preliminary research indicates that it puts kids to sleep quickly… a parent’s dream! So give it a try, and let me know if your kids love it as much as mine do.
